God Rested, and Adam in the Garden of Eden

Genesis 2

Day 7

1-3 The heavens and the earth were completely finished and God look upon it all. So on the seventh day He rested from all the work He had been doing. And, God made the seventh day a holy day so that all can rest.

Adam in the Garden of Eden

8-9 God planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there He put the man. And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow and they were beautiful to the eye and the fruit was good for food. In the middle of the garden God put the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
10-14  A river watered the garden in Eden. It was divided into four rivers. The first river is the Pishon and goes through the entire land to Havilah, where there is gold (the best gold; pearls and onyx too). The second river is the Gihon, and it goes to the land of Cush (possibly Mesopotamia). The name of the third river is Tigris, and it runs along the east side of Asshur and the fourth river is Euphrates.
15-17  Adam’s job was to take care of the Garden of Eden. And God commanded “You can eat from any tree in the garden, but YOU MUST NEVER EAT from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for you will die”.
18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

Things to Think About and Talk About
Can you draw what you think the Garden of Eden looked like?
And, draw the four rivers too?
What did God say Adam should never do?

God Created the World in Seven Days (Day 5 - Day 6)

Genesis 1

Day 5

20 And God said, "Let the water have fish and water animals, and let birds fly in the sky."
21 So God created every living thing in the water and every winged bird. And God saw that it was good
22 God blessed them and said, "Multiply and have babies to fill the water in the seas, and let the birds multiply and have babies to fill the earth."
23 And there was morning and night — the fifth day.

Day 6

24 And God said, "Let the land have living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so.
25 God made all the animals. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “I will make a man in my image to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over all of the animals of the ground."
27 So God created Adam in his own image,
Then God saw that Adam needed a helper
And He created Eve.
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be Multiply and have babies to fill the earth and tame it. You will rule over all the animals of the sea, sky and earth."

29 Then God said, "I give you all the plants that have leaves and fruit, they are yours. They will be yours for food.
30 And to all the animals of the sky, water and earth — I give every green plant for food." And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was morning and night — the sixth day.

Things to Think About and Talk About
What did God create on days 5 & 6?
Can you draw a picture of what God created?
Adam and Eve were God’s first children. And now we are His children. So, that means we are all brothers and sisters. What do you think about that?

God Created the World in Seven Days (Day 1 - Day 4)

Genesis 1

Day 1

1 God has been here since the beginning. He saw everything as it was created. Isn't that cool? God created Heaven and earth.
The earth was not anything at this time. It was emptiness. It was water and heavens.
3-4 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. And now dark and light were not together. They were separate.
5  God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there morning and night – the first day.

Day 2

6 And God said, "Let there be space between the waters to separate water from water."
7 So God made the space and separated the water under the space from the water above it. And it was so.
8God called the space "sky." And there was morning and night — the second day.

Day 3

9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be in one place, and let dry ground show up." And it happened 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, "Let the land have trees with fruit, plants and vegetable gardens: many different kinds that will grow from seeds." And it was so
12 And God saw that it was good13 And there was morning and night — the third day.

Day 4

14-15 And God said, "Let there be stars in the sky and they will make the seasons, Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer and that will make the years.” And it was so.
16 God made two great lights—the greater light, the sun will make the days, the lesser light, the moon, will make the night. He also made the stars.
17-18 God made the sky, the land, the sun and moon and stars. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was morning and night — the fourth day.

Things to Think About and Talk About
What did God create in the first 4 days?
Can you draw a picture of what God created?

Exercise!
God created everything, from nothing. Find a really dark place and go inside, like a closet. Is it really dark? You shouldn't be able to see anything. Remember how dark that was and go to the kitchen.

Now, get two cups, fill one with water and leave the other one empty. Put the empty (remember how it was in the dark place?) cup on the counter and look at it. That is how everything started – with nothing. It was all empty and God filled it. Now take the cup with water and start pouring it into the empty cup. Just like God did the emptiness before the world was created, it was filled because God spoke it into life.

We can pray and ask Him to fill us too - When we are sad, afraid, tired, hurt or miss someone – God is always here to listen to you, because He has always been here.
